Comprehensive Proposal writing as a Consultant

Learn about the trade and secure funding for your organisation. This course will teach you the proven methods, approaches and practises of writing winning proposals, retaining donors, managing the proposal writing process from start to finish and winning grants for your organisation.

This training will also offer an opportunity to discuss your proposal with our team members, who have over 25 years of experience delivering winning proposals and securing funding at $100 – 200 million.

Abdulahi Adem is a professional proposal writer with 16 years of experience in writing winning proposals. He has worked as an independent consultant, programme manager, specialist and senior manager responsible for country strategy processes, and he secured both institutional and private funding in the countries mentioned below.  He is extremely well-placed to guide you through the proposal writing process from start to finish.

Elias Barakisi is a professional proposal writer with Over ten years of experience in the development sector in Southern Africa, Eastern Europe and Globally with more than six years in Resource Mobilisation and Grants Management for an International Non-Governmental Organization. - Designing, managing and implementing development programmes focusing on Humanitarian response. Very strategic and demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating strategic plans. Have developed networks at the highest levels of donors, Government, business and civil society. –

Experience in proposal development and donor management, budget formulation, implementation, monitoring and review. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including representing an organization at a range of local and international fora, in the media and with the general public. - Experience working with some of the following key donors: European Commission, DANIDA, BMZ, FCDO, FAO, SIDA, USAID, UNICEF, WFP, and World Bank, among others. - Have developed high-level negotiation, collaborating and influencing skills, including the capacity to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels in the business, not-for-profit, scientific and political communities.

  • Coherence between result framework, LFA, indicator matrix and project work plan ( Gant Charts), key concepts, ideas and requirements by various institutional and private donors.
  • Special considerations for different sectors during the proposal stage ( CVA, LFS, WASH, Shelter, Education in Emergency ( EiE), Child protection in emergencies(CPiE), Legal Assistance, Health etc.)
  • How to approach integrated programming during proposals and convince donors that your approach works as a small organisation.
  • Staffing and support cost considerations for different institutional donors and funders.
  • Developing a sound budget and what to look for and what to avoid during budgeting exercise in most donors ( our experience so far with value for money and sound budgeting)
  • Post-submission communication with donors, what to avoid and what to do after the proposal is submitted.
  • Feedback sessions for the proposal writing team, how to develop effective post-submission workshop
  • What to consider during feedback sessions, learning and evaluation as part of the review process.
  • Donor approvals, preparing project agreements and developing operationalization of multi-year implementation plans (MYIPs)
  • Negotiating budget cuts with donors and what to expect from institutional donors before the implementation.
